Notes that look outside

Notes can now write about the world beyond the matrix, with diagrams to explore, credited photos and numbered sources, starting with a reading of Musk's companies.

  • 新增ObservationsA fourth kind of note, for companies and tools outside the matrix. The first, Notes on Musk's business loop, comes in English and Chinese.
  • 新增Architecture diagramsNotes can carry an architecture diagram you can hover, pin and open full screen; this one draws Musk's companies as a chain from power to chips to compute to robots.
  • 新增Photos and sourcesOpenly licensed photos carry their credit and licence, and every load-bearing fact has a numbered citation that jumps to a list of sources.

Found, and named once

Search engines and AI assistants can now read what each page is and who made it, and the brand is spelled one way everywhere: catforest.

  • 新增Readable by machinesEvery page carries structured data for one brand identity shared with the other sites and accounts; the home page lists the live projects, notes are marked as posts with their translations, and a sitemap, an AI-crawler-friendly robots file and /llms.txt are new.
  • 新增Share cardLinks to any page now unfurl with the catforest card.
  • 改进One spellingThe wordmark, tab titles and copy now read catforest, matching the domain.
  • 修复Note figuresFigures in notes stay within the text column on wide screens.

Notes that move

Notes publishes an essay in Chinese and English on how yPulse runs itself, and notes can now carry live diagrams; the first is yPulse's own workflow graph.

  • 新增A note on how yPulse runs itselfIt works whether I open it or not: the six workflows behind yPulse, when each one starts, what it writes, and the failure that spread further than it should have.
  • 新增Live diagrams in notesA note can carry an interactive diagram that plays, lights the path you pick and opens full screen. The first is yPulse's workflow graph as of 13 October, wider than the text column on large screens.

v2.11.0

2026-10-13

One template, many systems

Notes publishes a method essay in Chinese and English on yTemplate: the layers that let management systems in different domains look and behave the same.

  • 新增A note on one template and many systemsFrom one colour variable to many management systems: colour variables, themes, a component library, dense cards, page rules, one dataset in ten views, and the systems built on top of them.

v2.10.0

2026-10-13

Where things live, and rules in files

Notes publishes two method essays, each in Chinese and English: how the matrix decides which repository a capability belongs in, and why its working rules are written into files the AI reads.

  • 新增A note on placement and graduationOne capability, one home: the four questions that place anything new, what a new repository costs, the project that was turned away, and how things graduate from the lab into repositories of their own.
  • 新增A note on rules in filesFeature ledgers, page rules, release cards and the rules added after accidents, written next to the code so every new AI session starts from them.

v2.9.0

2026-10-13

From one page to seven posts

Notes publishes a method essay, in Chinese and English, on how one astrolabe page became a film, a work and part of a series, and when a method becomes an engine.

  • 新增A note on sources, series and enginesHow the astrolabe page grew into a film and seven posts, the counts that turn works into a series and a series' method into an engine, and why the layers stay apart. Written in Chinese and in English.

v2.8.1

2026-10-13

One note, one language

A note and its translation no longer sit side by side in the list; each note shows once, in the reader's language.

  • 修复Notes listEach note is listed once, in the interface language when a version exists, otherwise in English or as written, and a note's page links to its other languages.

v2.8.0

2026-10-13

One person's project matrix

Notes publishes a method essay, in Chinese and English, on 47.9 billion tokens over 196 days and how one person keeps the matrix running.

  • 新增A note on running the matrixWhat 196 days and 47.9 billion tokens went into: three subscriptions, a month of foundations, written rules, ledgers and release cards, and the token budget that now limits it. Written in Chinese and in English.

v2.7.0

2026-10-13

One film on six platforms, and a diorama engine

Notes publishes a method essay, in Chinese and English, on what one short film scored across six platforms, and the catalogue grows to twenty-five projects with yDiorama.

  • 新增A note on platformsWhat an 82-second astrolabe film scored on Xiaohongshu, Bilibili, Douyin, YouTube and X, what Bilibili's dashboard said about it, and the rules that came out of the numbers. Written in Chinese and in English.
  • 新增yDioramaThe isometric diorama engine under yLookbook's model cabinet joins the catalogue with introductions in all three languages.

v2.6.0

2026-10-09

Twenty-four projects and a first method note

The catalogue grows to twenty-four projects with new product views, and Notes publishes its first method essay.

  • 新增Four more projectsyAtlas, yIsobath, yPlotter and yAgentKit join with introductions in all three languages, and the timeline reaches October.
  • 新增Desktop downloadsyIsobath links straight to its public installers and is marked as downloadable rather than deployed.
  • 新增Product viewsScreenshots of yIsobath's disk survey and reclaimable space, and three drawings made with yPlotter for the Drafting Sheets.
  • 新增A note on publishingA Chinese essay on letting an agent fill four platforms' upload forms in the browser, stopping one click short of publishing.
  • 改进yGenshinColor on holdMarked as in development, with its public links hidden while access is paused.

v2.5.0

2026-09-28

Twenty projects, up to date

The catalogue catches up with yPulse, adds real product views and makes the Chinese introduction easier to read.

  • 新增Three more projectsExplore yCollections, yCrmTemplate and yListen, with introductions in all three languages and an updated September timeline.
  • 新增Inside yPulseSee its project list, automation workflows and project relationships in three complete screenshots, with no edges cropped away.
  • 改进Current views and clearer descriptionsUpdated project screenshots include the first views of yIcon and yApis. Chinese navigation, introductions and activity labels read more naturally.
  • 新增Keeping the catalogue currentAutomated checks flag missing projects, incomplete translations, missing media and stale data when the catalogue drifts from yPulse.

v2.4.1

2026-09-04

Seventeen rows

yGraphify leaves the catalogue, and the site name stops being typed into every translated page title.

  • 改进yGraphify left the catalogueIt was removed from the yPulse matrix and archived — its design-system showcase belonged to yBlocks and its landing-page replica to yLookbook, so it was a second half-built copy of things the matrix already had.
  • 改进One place for the site nameInner tabs read `Page · cat-forest` through a title template. The suffix used to be typed into four titles in each of three locale files — twelve strings, twelve chances to drift.

v2.4.0

2026-09-02

Nine rows with something to show

The projects that make video now lead with the video they made, yAssets shows its interface, and the shader lab trades a flawed recording for four clean stills.

  • 新增yMotion and yReel show their own outputAn original yBlocks film with two of its scenes, and a card master produced by the storyboard pipeline. For a tool that makes video, the output is the introduction.
  • 新增yAssets shows its interfaceThe library, an asset's rating and properties, and the filter popover.
  • 改进The shader lab is stills onlyScreen capture can't keep up with a shader's frame rate and the compositing threw frames that looked wrong, so four clean stills replace the clip.

v2.3.0

2026-09-02

Show, don't describe

Three rows that used to be typographic plates now carry real screen recordings and screenshots, and the deck crops far less of each capture than it did.

  • 新增Recordings for three more projectsTwelve shader backgrounds stepped through with an arrow key; a whole-site look swapped from yLookbook's panel, with the page changing under it; and this site's own card field scrolling into the catalogue.
  • 改进Less of each capture is croppedThe scroll parallax needs material outside the frame, and it was taking 14% of every capture — enough to eat a nav rail. It now takes 6%.

v2.2.0

2026-09-02

Rows that show their work

A project's row can now hold a stack of real captures — screenshots and short recordings — instead of a single frame, and the timeline on /about runs through September.

  • 新增Media decksSeveral captures per project, stacked like cards: the front one lit, the ones behind peeking out dimmer and softer. Stills advance on their own, clips advance when they end, and hovering or scrolling away pauses the deck.
  • 改进The timeline runs to SeptemberThe /about arc is now called the timeline in all three languages, and it carries the thread that set the pace — including Fable 5.1 and a single-day record of 880 million tokens on 1 September.

v2.1.0

2026-09-02

The matrix, on the home page

The catalogue moved off /matrix and onto the home page, live facts now come straight from yPulse, and the copy across all three languages got a pass for a plainer, more native voice.

  • 新增The matrix lives on the home pageThe full catalogue sits right under the hero instead of a click away — /matrix now redirects to the catalogue for old links.
  • 新增Page-view analyticscat-forest now reports page views through Cloudflare Web Analytics.
  • 改进Live facts from yPulseStatus, public URL, releases and weekly commits now come from yPulse's own showcase data instead of a hand-maintained registry.
  • 改进A more natural voice in all three languagesChinese copy was rewritten for a plainer, less literal register, and English/Japanese were re-synced to match.
  • 修复Entrance reveals staying invisibleJumping to an anchor on the longer home page could leave the signals band and catalogue heading permanently faded out.

v2.0.0

2026-08-29

One light

The site is rebuilt as a spotlit showroom: one committed look, no theme switcher, and a hero assembled from the matrix's own screens.

  • 新增The Stage lookA matte black stage lit by a single cream spotlight replaces the switchable generative one — the accent is rationed to four places, and the type is one family layered by size and weight.
  • 新增A hero made of real workSeventy-two sprites drift toward the camera through a perspective starfield, textured with actual yBlocks cards rather than invented artwork.
  • 新增Every product, all eighteenThe catalogue now lists the whole matrix in three languages, filtered by platform and status, with releases and commit counts straight from the pipeline.
  • 改进About is the arcThe page tells how a pile of side projects became a matrix — which came first and why the order matters — and each chapter picks up new repositories on its own.
  • 改进Photos live at yPhotosThe gallery link goes straight to photos.catforest.dev instead of maintaining a second archive here.

v1.4.2

2026-08-06

A lighter engine

The framework under the site moves to Next.js 16.3 — nothing changes on the page, everything under it runs leaner.

  • 改进Next.js 16.3Dev sessions use up to 90% less memory, repeat builds reuse unchanged artifacts from cache, and server-side rendering handles up to ~22% more load.

v1.4.1

2026-07-28

The ledger keeps the score

yStage now keeps a feature ledger — a machine-readable record of everything shipped and planned, ready for yPulse to collect.

  • 新增Feature ledgerEvery capability, shipped or planned, lives in .roadmap/features.yaml as the single source of truth — and completing a feature updates its entry in the same commit.

v1.4.0

2026-07-27

Products get a front door

The matrix's products start getting landing pages of their own — each with its own art direction rather than the site's, beginning with yBlocks.

  • 新增yBlocks landing pageA dark, generative front door for the block library lives at /products/yblocks in all three languages, with a warped grid that follows the cursor and a headline that types itself.
  • 新增Live numbers, not marketingThe badge and the stat row read the release tag, weekly commits and last commit straight from the pipeline — and quietly show less when it can't be reached, instead of inventing a figure.
  • 改进Matrix cardsAny product that has a landing page now links to it directly from its card.

v1.3.0

2026-07-23

A logo that listens

The brand mark joins the generative system — it follows light, dark, and whichever spectrum you pick.

  • 新增Theme-aware markThe nav logo is drawn live from a spectrum gradient under the cat's silhouette mask, so it re-colors with the theme and palette; the favicon is baked on the default Very Blue.
  • 改进Language panelThe locale picker now matches the spectrum panel — locale-code rows, native names, and a spectrum-colored check instead of the old purple highlight.

v1.2.0

2026-07-22

The generative stage

A ground-up redesign: the site is now a generative system — an aurora sky, a particle cat, and six switchable color spectrums.

  • 新增Generative redesignAn aurora ambient layer and a canvas particle field that assembles the cat from the logo itself — seeded differently on every visit, gentle on reduced motion and battery.
  • 新增Spectrum pickerSix curated palettes switchable from the nav — Very Blue by default; the sky, the cat, and every accent follow instantly, and your choice sticks.
  • 新增Live home pageA matrix ticker straight from the pipeline and count-up stats put real activity on the front door.
  • 改进Editorial pagesMatrix, notes, gallery, and about re-set with editorial type, glass cards, and scroll reveals.

v1.1.0

2026-07-15

Now in three languages

The whole public site speaks English, Japanese, and Chinese — pick a language and the URL, copy, and dates follow.

  • 新增Trilingual siteEnglish stays at the root; Japanese and Chinese live under /ja and /zh, and your browser language is detected on the first visit.
  • 新增Language switcherA globe menu in the nav switches language while keeping you on the same page.
  • 改进Mobile navigationA slide-in menu keeps every section reachable on small screens now that there are five of them.

v1.0.0

2026-07-14

Setting the stage

yStage goes live — the public stage of the cat-forest product matrix: brand, site, matrix, notes, and gallery, built in a day.

  • 新增Project bootstrapForked from yTemplate: Next.js 16 app shell, token-driven theming with a live settings drawer, validated env vars, and status pages.
  • 改进Clean slateAll template demo routes, widgets, and sample stores removed, leaving only the shell and infrastructure to build the stage on.
  • 新增Product planThe full positioning, information architecture, data pipeline, and release roadmap are documented in docs/product-plan.md.
  • 新增Cat-forest brandThe purple sampled from the cat logo drives the whole theme — primary color, chart scale, favicon, and a new default theme preset.
  • 新增Public siteA marketing shell with its own top nav and footer, a one-screen home that pitches the matrix, and an About page with the full story.
  • 新增MatrixA live, read-only card view of every product — releases, weekly commits, and last activity from the yPulse pipeline, with a cat-family icon variant per product and a fallback chain so the page never renders blank.
  • 新增NotesAn MDX pipeline where publishing is a git commit: frontmatter-validated notes in three pillars (build log, method, life), starting with this release's own build log.
  • 新增GalleryThe photography page's skeleton — a masonry layout with location and camera captions, waiting for the first curated thirty.
